Man arrested for cutting off electronic monitor

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested a man who cut off his electronic monitor.

Otis Johnson was wanted on outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Johnson was released from jail on August 30, 2012 after he posted bond on multiple drug and firearms charges.

He was ordered to wear a CMPD electronic monitor as a condition of his release.

Police said on January 8, 2013 Johnson cut off his electronic monitor shortly after a detective from CMPD questioned him about an unrelated crime.

Johnson was last seen in the area of Beatties Ford Road.

He has an extensive criminal history in Mecklenburg County including arrests for burglary, robbery, drugs, and firearms charges.

CMPD is currently monitoring 385 offenders.
