CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Stephanie Duffy is the proud mother of Pearson.

His birth is not the warm-fuzzy story moms like to relay.

When she was home, she took an Ambien on doctor's orders. She woke up hours later in serious labor.

"I felt the urge to push," Duffy said.

It was fast.  She calls it scary. A half hour after waking up, Stephanie delivered little Pearson.

Pearson's daddy, Paul, was there too.

It was too quick to call for help.

Thankfully, Pearson came out crying and okay.

But Stephanie wasn't. She was bleeding profusely. That's when they called 911.

Medic arrived, along with the West Mecklenburg Volunteer Fire Department. Stephanie then lost consciousness.

The rescuers rushed her to the ambulance and revived her.

Tuesday was special.

It has been four-and-a-half months, but it's the first time they've all met since.

But the firefighters and Medic will tell you, being there in critical moments is just part of their job.
