CONCORD, NC (WBTV) -
Police in Concord say a man, accused of taking part in a robbery,
accidentally shot himself while running from police.
Officers told WBTV the man and a second man robbed Jordan's Hot Spot on South
Main Street in Kannapolis at about 4 a.m. Monday
The duo got away with money from the store but police noticed a suspicious
vehicle entering Concord from the area where the robbery happened. There were
two suspects in the vehicle who matched the suspect descriptions.
An officer attempted to stop the vehicle on Marietta Place, but the men
jumped from the vehicle and ran.
While running, officers say one of the suspects shot himself in the left
leg. He was identified as Johnny L. Steele of Kannapolis.
He was arrested and taken to a local hospital, police told WBTV.
Officers arrested Michael A. Smith of Concord in the area a short time
later.
Smith is charged with Robbery. Steele will be charged when he is released
from the hospital.
