Two men arrested in connection with Charlotte's first homicide of 2013

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Two men are under arrest for Charlotte's first murder of 2013. 

Antonio "Tony" Farrar, 20, and Dontae Leverne Torrance, 19, are in custody.

The duo is charged with a New Year's Day shooting that killed 19-year-old Benjamin Sky McDaniel and injured 21-year-old Jerik Simmons.

Detectives responded to the 8700 block of Goldfields Road the evening of January 1 and found McDaniel and Simmons shot.

Simmons was rushed to surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. He is expected to survive.

McDaniel died.

Investigators believe the four men were involved in a drug transaction.

Torrance was arrested the next day. He is charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Conspiracy, and Obtaining Property by False Pretense.

Farrar turned himself in Sunday. He is charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, and Conspiracy.

In court Tuesday, Farrar was awarded a public defender. He is expected back in court January 16 for a bond hearing.
