A teenager who says he is the son of a U.S. Senator, and grandson of a former Presidential candidate, was arrested Saturday night at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
William Hilton Paul, 19, was transported and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail after a flight attendant said he was intoxicated and disruptive on a US Airways flight into Charlotte.
US Airways has denied serving Paul alcohol onboard the flight.
Sources at the Mecklenburg Co. Sheriff's Office say he identified himself as the son of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. Senator Paul's father is former Presidential candidate Ron Paul.
Paul was also charged with disorderly conduct, being intoxicated and disruptive, and consuming beer/wine underage.
Questions still remain as to where Paul got the alcohol. Paul's flight departed from The Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky Saturday morning. A spokesperson for the airport says they have not been contacted about the case, nor did their security have any issue with Paul.
Senator Rand Paul's Communication Director, Moira Bagley released the following statement, "The Senator is currently traveling and I am unable to confirm this information with him. Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this."
The Senator's son will be in court on Tuesday January 8th.
