WAXHAW, NC (WBTV) -

The woman known as the "Oldest Living Breast Cancer Survivor in North Carolina" has passed away at the age of 103 years-old.

Nannie Sue Neal, who lived in Waxhaw, died Thursday morning at home with her family.  She was born on October 15, 1909.

Neal was a 59-year survivor of breast cancer.

WBTV's Molly Grantham had the honor to meet Mrs. Neal  during Charlotte's 2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Neal was named the Honorary Race Director for the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October 2011.

She was taken to CMS and honored on her 102nd birthday with a ride around the track in a pink race car driven by NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace.

WBTV's Kristen Hampton was at the track for the celebration and aired Neal's story in her Good News series.

Neal was too frail to make the trip for the 2012 race.

During a conversation with Charlotte Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure officials on Thursday morning, Neal's granddaughter, Betty Lynn, said attending the Komen RFTC was always the highlight of her year.

"October was her birthday month and breast cancer awareness month, so she celebrated life for two reasons," Betty Lynn said.

When asked how she lived such a long, healthy life, Nannie Sue's family said she lived a very healthy lifestyle - closely watching and cataloging her diet and eating the right foods, always practiced portion control!

Funeral services are being handled by Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, North Carolina.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6 from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, with a service being held at 4:00.  A private burial service will be held on Monday.

Komen Charlotte says the group will be sending flowers with special pink survivor sash & pink bows , pink Komen lapel pins for all attending service, and a signed picture of Nannie Sue at one of their RFTC events.

In lieu of flowers, all memorials will be directed to Susan G. Komen.
