Two new congressmen representing the Charlotte area in Congress will be sworn into office later Thursday. Republicans Robert Pittenger and Richard Hudson will take the oath in the nation's capital.
In November, Pittenger, a former state senator, defeated Democrat Jennifer Roberts in the district nine race.
Hudson beat Larry Kissell in the district eight race. Hudson is a longtime former campaign director for Congressman Robin Hayes.
In South Carolina, Republican Congressman Tim Scott will officially take Jim Demint's place in the Senate Thursday. Governor Nikki Haley appointed Scott to the seat.
Haley is ordering a special election to fill Scott's seat. The primary will be in March. The general election will take place in May.
