About 100 people were "freezin' for a reason" New Year's Day at Trump National Golf Course.
A fifth annual polar plunge raised money for SCAN of Iredell County. SCAN stands for Stop Child Abuse Now.
Polar plunge participants have raised about $50,000 for the organization over the last five years. SCAN works with mothers and fathers in the area on parenting skills. Studies have shown that better parent-child relationships cut down on child abuse.
In addition to taking the plunge on the golf course and raising money for SCAN, participants signed a banner with thoughts and prayers that will be delivered to the community of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, which is still reeling from last year's school shooting.
