Man badly burned in New Year's Eve fire

MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a structure fire that sent a man to the hospital.

Just before 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve, firefighters responded to a home on Colony Road in Monroe.

Officials with the Monroe Fire Department say a man was home alone when the fire broke out. He was seriously burned and taken to the burn center at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

Clyde Heath Jr. was in good condition Tuesday morning.

The Fire Chief told WBTV the home was destroyed.

Investigators suspect a space heater caused the fire, but the investigation is ongoing.
