CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Thousands of people counted down the new year in front of Levine Avenue of the Arts in Uptown Charlotte at midnight Tuesday.
But once the crowds cleared out, it was time to start the clean up.
City crews got to work early Tuesday morning clearing out the mess left behind.
During First Night, there were plenty of police patrolling the streets. WBTV News crews saw officers on bikes and on foot.
The city classified First Night as an "Extraordinary Event," which means there was beefed up security.
Final reports indicate there were a total of 20 arrests in Center City between 6 p.m. Monday night and 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. Most of the arrests were minor infractions.
