Two weeks after police said an SUV and dog were taken from a Walmart parking lot, both have been recovered.
"Through the help of the community, my friends, my friends online and the online community, we've got the dog back," said Jason Tharp.
On Dec. 14, Tharp said he went to the Walmart to get camping supplies and put his 6-month-old German short haired pointer Lexi in her crate in the cargo area of his SUV while he went inside.
When he went back to the parking lot, his car was gone, and so was his dog.
Tharp took out ads to get his dog back, and posted appeals on online message boards - and it worked. One of the tips received eventually led Travelers Rest police to an address in Greenville County.
Police aren't releasing much information yet in the investigation, but they tell us the SUV and dog were found in one location.
But Travelers Rest Police Capt. John Gardner said the fact that the dog was found at all is a rarity.
"The longer a case goes without a resolution, the less likely that it will be a good resolution. So two weeks is a long time for a dog to be missing. For a dog to come back to an owner, that makes it really special and sweet for them," said Gardner.
Tharp said he's still missing some of his stuff, but the most important thing that was taken is now back home.
"Christmas came a little late this year, but it came," he said.
Police charged Jonathan Hamby, 20, and Jarrid Wilson, 18, each with grand larceny. They were released from jail on bond.
