CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A man was arrested Friday after being chased from an apartment he allegedly broke into and hiding in a second, officials said.

A man woke up in his apartment Friday morning and saw a strange man inside with a backpack. He confronted the intruder, and chased him out the front door and through the complex before he saw the man go into another apartment. He then called 911, officials told WBTV.

Deputies came and knocked on the door of the apartment the man had gone into. A woman answered, and told the deputies no one was inside.

Deputies searched the apartment and found Robert Keppel hiding under a sheet in another room with stolen items, officials said.

Deputies say the woman had no idea Keppel was in her apartment.

Keppel, who was wanted for a felony probation violation, was also charged with two counts of breaking and entering, one count of larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods.

Deputies say more charges could be coming.
