High winds could cause repeat of trouble in the mountains

Banner Elk, NC (WBTV) -

As a massive storm swept through the Carolinas on Wednesday, the North Carolina Mountains saw a mix of all type of weather.

The storm brought rain, freezing rain, some sleet and even some snow to many sections of the high country.

Along with the wet weather, temperatures hovered in the mid-30's and the wind started to pick up.

The National Weather service has issued a high wind warning for many sections of the mountains with gusts of 50 miles per hour possible.

Along with the wind, snow is expected to fall with a couple of inches on the ground by morning.

Officials are hoping the wind and snow won't mean a repeat of what happened last weekend. Thousands were without power after high winds knocked down snow and ice laden trees. Some of that damage has still not been cleaned up.

Residents are being urged to prepare for possible power outages and slick roads.
