CLOVER, SC (WBTV) -
A York County man was arrested Saturday for stealing selling vases from a local cemetery for scrap.
Charles Wayne Cochran, 42, of Clover, is charged with grand larceny and obliteration/desecration of human burial grounds, according to a news release from the York County Sheriff's Office.
18 bronze coated vases were reported stolen from Lakeview Memory Gardens on Nov. 28. The vases were valued at $5,400, according to the report.
On Dec. 6, Action Demolition and Recycling in Dallas, NC, reported that Cochran brought in several vases and sold them for scrap. Her had cut up the vases before he brought them in.
Cochran was stopped by the Clover Police Department on Saturday at Forest and S. Main Streets for outstanding warrants.
Cochran was jailed at the York Co. Detention Center.
