Firefighters called after acid spill in NW Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

An acid spill in west Charlotte on Christmas day could take days to clean up, according to fire officials.

The spill happened around 10 a.m. in the 1700 block of Tarheel Road.

CFD confirmed that a tanker spilled an undisclosed amount of acetic acid on a property owned by Dana Transport Company.

Some acid spilled into a nearby creek and the Environmental Protection Agency was notified, which is standard procedure, officials said.

Firefighters contained the spill, and WBTV has learned that the company has hired a private company to clean up the mess.
