CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man arrested and charged in a 1991 rape case has been charged in two additional rape cases from the same year, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Drayton Lamar Thompson, 42, was arrested on December 11 this year after DNA evidence submitted from the cold case matched his. He was charged with two counts of first degree rape and first degree sex offense, kidnapping, and felony conspiracy, police said.

On December 21, Detectives with CMPD's Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit charged Thompson, who was still in custody, for his involvement in the two additional rape cases, the report states.

The first case happened on August 12, 1991, when a victim was abducted by two males driving a vehicle on the 2600 block of Beechnut Drive. The victim was taken to an unknown location where she was sexually and physically assaulted. The men then released the female and she contacted authorities.

Detectives responded to the scene to investigate, but were unable to identify any suspects at the time.

The two additional cases also occurred in 1991 on the 1300 block of LaSalle Street and the 900 block of Beatties Ford Road. As in the other case, these victims were abducted by two male suspects driving a vehicle. The victims were taken to a home at an unknown location where they were sexually assaulted.

The suspects then drove the victims to another location where they were released. DNA evidence in these cases also matched the DNA of Thompson.

Thompson was charged with an additional six counts of first degree rape, three counts of first degree sex offense, and one count each of first and second degree kidnapping for his role in the two additional cases.
