The Caldwell County Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a home in the Patterson Community over night.
A neighbor called in the fire at 2356 Setzers Creek Road between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
The single story, wood-frame house belonged to Evelyn Gentry.
Fire Marshal Robbie Wilkie says Ms. Gentry was home at the time of the fire, but she told family members that her dog woke her up and she was able to escape safely with the dog. She was not injured.
Wilkie says the fire was accidental and started in the front room of the home. He says the house was destroyed by flames and damages are estimated at $25,000. Investigators are still narrowing down the exact cause.
Responding to the fire in addition to the Caldwell County Fire Marshal's office were Patterson Fire Department, Yadkin Valley Fire Department and Valmead Fire Department.
