A strong storm system is bringing blizzard conditions to the Great Lakes region, and the Carolinas will feel the impacts from this system as well.
After some much needed rain moved through the area, the winds began to pick up overnight Thursday. The potential for damaging winds will be even higher Friday afternoon, as wind gusts approach 70 mph in the high country, where a High Wind Warning has been issued.
Strong winds from the same system tore down trees and overturned power poles in Green county, Tennessee. Several homes were also damaged.
Another potential travel hazard will be snow falling in the mountains. One to three inches is forecast through Saturday morning that could cause slick roadways.
The Piedmont will also see strong winds, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible in the late afternoon hours.
