"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory takes over as the Governor of North Carolina when he is officially sworn in later this week.
We offer our congratulations and wish him well as he attempts to solve some of the issues facing our great state.
Of course, we would not be worth our salt as an Editorial Board if we didn't point out what we feel are some key issues Governor McCrory needs to address.
First, improve our economic and regulatory environment so that we are friendly to small, medium and large businesses.
Help our current and any new employers be more competitive and create jobs.
Second, invest in our transportation systems.
Build and improve our roads, create efficient and effective mass transit,
and make the economic centers of our state more accessible.
Hey, how about an interstate that connects the state west to east – from the mountains to coastal ports and beaches?
Finally, bring our state together:
North, South, East and West…
Democrat, Republican, Independent…
Urban and rural alike.
We are all in this together and a rising tide raises all boats.
Our state has tremendous advantages and an abundance of talent – much of it sitting on the sidelines.
Governor McCrory, let's rally the troops and put the interests of our citizens and the state above politics.
Now let's get to work.
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" – tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
