Did someone say snow? Just in time for Christmas!

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A strong storm system bringing severe weather to portions of the Southeast will bring strong winds and snow to the higher elevations tonight.

A cold front will move through the Carolinas throughout the afternoon hours, bringing much needed rain back to the area.  Once the frontal boundary moves out, the cold air moves in, coupling with enough moisture to bring up to three inches of snow in the mountains.

Winds will pick up behind the front as well, and gusts could reach as high as 60 mph, enough to knock down trees and possibly power lines.

Use caution, especially if traveling in the mountains through Saturday, when winds will start to die down and show showers begin to taper off.

In the Piedmont, expect up to an inch of much needed rain to start falling late this afternoon, with colder temperatures to follow this weekend.
