"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
2013 is just days away. Many of us with children and grandchildren will look for a safe, family-friendly way to ring in the New Year.
Well, we have a suggestion…First Night Charlotte 2013.
For the fifth year, WBTV and Charlotte Center City Partners are the proud sponsors of this innovative and exciting cultural event.
The fun kicks off at Noon on New Year's Eve with "First Night Kids."
Children of all ages can enjoy music, dance, story-telling, science and more.
Events will be held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, The Green and the Levine Avenue of the Arts, to name only a few.
The children's events will run from Noon until 5…with a kids' countdown to the New Year from 4:30-5PM.
Then, starting at 8PM, First Night festivities will pick back up with plenty of great music and entertainment.
At ten, the countdown to the New Year begins at the main stage featuring the band "Simply Irresistible."
The grand finale will include fireworks and the raising of the Charlotte Crown at midnight.
First Night is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event.
We hope you'll join us in person.
But if you can't, WBTV will also be broadcasting the celebration "live" starting at 10PM.
