Sandy Hook massacre prompting school changes

Hello again everyone, it's Paul Cameron in the WBTV newsroom.

Tonight at 5:00PM—as we're getting to know the stories behind the massacre victims at Sandy Hook Elementary, the question of gun control is stirring passions. A rally held today in support of tougher gun laws held in front of the National Rifle Association headquarters. And the shootings have also prompted changes in school security at CMS. Reporter Sharon Smith is finding out what's changed.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has appointed a new Senator to replace the retiring Jim DeMint. There's no surprise in her announcement.

Our wet weather is good news for the rain tables. Eric Thomas says he expects more before it all comes to an end.

A bit more optimism about avoiding the fiscal cliff-- Speaker John Boehner and President Obama met for 45 minutes today and there is some progress between the two.

    After a Mint Hill family is now without a home after a massive fire Friday night, neighbors said the damage to the home could have been minimized, if one of their long-time concerns had been addressed.
