There is never really any downtime for Cup Series teams, but usually the days following the annual sports banquet are when things slow down a bit. However, with the introduction of the G6 race car for 2013, many teams are operating like it is midseason.

Many of those teams rolled their new Generation 6 race cars into Charlotte Motorspeedway last week for their first true test of the approved new design. Most agreed that the new car is a vast improvement from the car that they ran this past season.

"This car has a lot of sensations that I felt in the old cars that we ran 10 years ago," said an excited Dale Earnhardt Jr. "It's still early and we're trying not to get too excited or form an opinion too early."

As most teams looked for answers to some questions still lurking about the new car, others were looking for answers to internal questions.

Newly named Cup Series Champion Brad Keselowski was looking for motivation to encourage his young team that just attained the sport's highest prize.

"One of the best advantages that switching to Ford gives us is to prove all over again that we can be successful no matter what the manufacturer, no matter what the circumstances," said Keselowski. "I think that is very healthy for a race team."

Many faces will change for teams next year, the most watched change will be for long time Ford driver, Matt Kenseth. His move to the Toyota's of Joe Gibbs racing puts an added challenge to his team as he learns a new team and new manufacturer.

"A lot of the guys have been around for a long time so I know who they are, "said Kenseth regarding his new team. "As for the cars, a lot is different especially a lot of rear grip with the cambered rear end."

The tests proved a success with very positive reviews. Most drivers agree that the new design will create more passing and door-to-door action. They also felt that the fans will be excited with the look of the new cars and the level of competition. In their opinion, the 2013 season looks bright for all parties.
