Charlotte Habitat dedicates "Legacy Home"

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

After months of planning and building, the Fennell family is finally ready to move into their new home in the Reid Park neighborhood of West Charlotte.

"It is just an awesome feeling to see that we got here you know after all these years," said Darcel Fennell. Thursday afternoon, Habitat for Humanity along with several other local corporations dedicated the house which is considered a "green" home and should be upfitted with solar panels soon.

The house was mostly constructed at a sight in Uptown Charlotte during the Democratic National Convention, then moved to its current site in West Charlotte.

The Fennell's got the keys on Thursday and will move in on Monday after the finishing touches are put on the home and energy efficient appliances are placed throughout.

This will be the first Christmas in 23 years of marriage, Darcel and her husband James have spent in a home they own.
