BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
We all know Santa Claus is watching this time of year, and he has many helpers to keep track of who's naughty and nice, but some very special elves have children behaving extra nicely.
After all, an "Elf on the Shelf" visits the North Pole every night and reports to Santa what they see.
The elves have been spotted all over the country and they let the kids know they have been watching them. They say children can do good deeds to make up for being bad. The elves see this and are happy to report back to Santa.
The elves may be mischievous, but they do not want the children to behave like them.
The tradition begins when Santa sends out his scout elves and they appear in homes around Thanksgiving Day.
Once the elf is named by the family, each elf scout will receive its Christmas magic and become a part of the family's Christmas each year.
The elves cannot be touched, or else they may lose their magic. Each night, after the family goes to bed, the elf uses his magic to return to the North Pole to report to Santa.
Before the family wakes up, the elf will fly back to the home.
You won't find the elf in the same spot each day, and they like to play games. From photos, it seems these elves really enjoy chocolate and they also enjoy the company of other toys.
The elves have been found in freezers (it reminds them of the North Pole), hanging from chandeliers, and of course... on the shelf.
The elves will return to the North Pole on Christmas Eve and wait for the next Christmas season.
We want to see where your "Elf on the Shelf" turns up. Send your pictures to email@example.com.
