KSP: Man tried to run over troopers with tractor

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – A western Kentucky man faces attempted murder charges for trying to run over two Kentucky State Police troopers with a tractor, according to KSP Post 1 in Mayfield.

A KSP press release says the troopers were called to a home in Farmington, KY shortly after 7:00 local time on Tuesday on a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arriving, the troopers discovered the woman who had called 911 had locked herself inside the home, and the suspect had climbed onto a tractor and was threatening to use it to destroy vehicles parked at the residence.

The suspect, Michael A Rose, 45, then fled the scene on a Ford 7710 tractor with an attached front-end loader. The troopers tried to stop the tractor but said Rose refused and continued to drive west on KY 1890 before exiting the roadway and entering a field. Investigators said Rose tried to ram the troopers with the tractor, but the troopers managed to get out of the way.

Rose drove into another field as the troopers followed him on foot, according to the release. He then turned the tractor around abruptly, lowered the front-end loader and tried to run over the troopers, investigators said. The troopers fired their service weapons, striking the tractor.

According to the release, Rose crossed KY 1890 with the tractor and entered another field area, but the tractor became disabled. Police said Rose refused commands to exit the cab of the tractor, so one of the troopers deployed an electronic control device through an open window. Rose continued to resist arrest, investigators said, but he eventually was taken into custody.

Rose is charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder of a police officer, fleeing/evading police and resisting arrest. He is lodged in the Graves County Jail.
