LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) -

On Sunday, the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office charged Melvin Sowell Jr., 24, of Heath Springs, in connection with the shooting death of Michael Lamar Catoe, 25, also of Heath Springs.

The investigation began Saturday around 5 p.m. when Catoe was found dead on the side of Beecher Horton Road in Heath Springs, according to a news release from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

A passerby saw Catoe's body and called the Sheriff's Office.  Catoe appeared to have been shot to death.

The investigation revealed that Catoe was shot during an altercation on Arbor Drive in Kershaw.  After the shooting, Sowell dumped Catoe's body on Beecher Horton Road

Sowell will be charged with Murder and is currently incarcerated at the Lancaster County Detention where he is awaiting a bond hearing.  The case is still under investigation and no motive has been determined.

Sheriff Faile said, "Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Mr. Catoe.  I am thankful that we were able to arrest the suspect so quickly.  Unfortunately once again we see the impact that repeat offenders have on our society.  Neither Catoe nor Sowell are strangers to the criminal justice system."
