Police: Young girl made up kidnapping story

Posted: Updated:

Police in Charlotte say a young girl lied and told authorities at a Ballantyne school, telling authorities she had been kidnapped at a nearby apartment complex.

Investigators from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say the 11-year-old made up the entire story.

According to a police report that was filed on Thursday, the incident was reported at 4:40 p.m. Thursday at Community House Middle School on Community House Road.

The 6th grader told investigators that she was kidnapped and assaulted around the apartment complex at 8600 Robinson Forest Drive.

The report lists the girl as having minor injuries and suffering from a loss of consciousness. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A spokeswoman for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools says the school system sent information out to parents of all the students at the school, asking parents to talk with their students about safety.

CMS is providing additional security Friday in the area around the school.

Again, police say the young girl made up the entire story.  It is not clear why the story was fabricated.
