CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say an impaired driver hit and killed a pedestrian who was walking his dog early Friday morning in northeast Charlotte.
Police say 53-year-old Michael Dennis Case was walking his dog on Prosperity Church Road.
Investigators say, at about 3:45 a.m., Case crossed the road at the Loganville Drive intersection and was hit by a 1999 Volvo S80 traveling northwest.
Case was pronounced dead just before 4 a.m. His dog has a broken hind leg and was taken to Animal Care and Control for treatment.
The driver of the Volvo, 65-year-old James B. Nash, stopped and attempted to call 911. He was not hurt in the crash, but officers say he showed signs of impairment.
Nash was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI, then taken to the hospital for a blood sample.
Officers say the case is under investigation and more charges may be pending.
