Charlotte, NC - (WBTV)
Seven of our high schools went to the state championships last weekend, three came home with the title... Butler, South Iredell and East Lincoln.
The playoff system will be changing come next season though, the NCHSAA voted Thursday, and they will be getting rid of the pod system for football playoffs except in 1A and 1AA.
The pod system has been a hot topic on WBTV's Sunday night call-in show, 'The Point After'.
In the system, created in 2010, teams were put into four regional groups and that created many conference rematches.
The initial reasoning for the pod system was to save money on travel.
Head football coaches in North Carolina met back in February for their annual meeting, where they voted to abolish the pod system.
