Authorities say a U.S. Border Patrol agent has fatally shot a suspected illegal immigrant after a physical altercation in southern Arizona.
Border Patrol officials say an agent on patrol about 12 miles northwest of the Sasabe port of entry encountered an unknown number of individuals who had crossed the border illegally early Sunday afternoon.
Sasabe is about 70 miles south of Tucson.
Officials say that during the encounter, the agent fired his service-issued weapon and one suspected illegal immigrant was killed.
They say agents arrested six other individuals.
Border Patrol officials didn't immediately release any other details of the shooting on Tuesday. They say the agency is fully cooperating with tribal and FBI investigators.
