DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -
The dean of the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine has been arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence.
Dr. Craig Lenz was taken into custody and charged on December 1 in Bay County, Florida. The incident is alleged to have happened on Mexico Beach.
The CEO of ACOM, Ronald S. Owen, released a statement Tuesday saying, "This situation does not slow down or distract us from the continuation of interviewing faculty and students" for the college's inaugural class. That class is set to begin in August 2013.
"We are steadfast in doing everything that is in the best interest of our academic program at ACOM," Owen said. "The need for physicians is great and we will open a world-class medical college in less than nine months. The ACOM faculty and staff along with Southeast Alabama Medical Center will appropriately support Dr. Lenz while the charges are under investigation."
