Several new roads will open Friday as the N.C. Department of Transportation continues to make progress on the final segment of the Charlotte Outer Loop project, which will complete the remaining 5.7 miles of I-485 in northeast Mecklenburg County.
Crews will open the following roadways by 3 p.m. Friday:
A new segment of Eastfield Road from N.C. 115 (Old Statesville Road) to Browne Road
A new road, Independence Hill Road, will open between N.C. 115 and Eastfield Road; and
Another new road, Dixon Farm Road, will open to tie in with Eastifeld Road.
New traffic signals will be in place at Independence Hill Road and Eastfield Road. In addition, the traffic signals at Alexanderana Road and Eastfield Road will be removed. The signals will be replaced by stop signs.
Motorists should remain alert and use caution at these intersections, as they will not be in their final traffic pattern.
The $139.5 million project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
