Give a gift that honors the one you love, and helps local children

A Child's Place is a local nonprofit working to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education.

Right now, A Child's Place is doing something extra special for the holiday season.

What do you get for the person who has everything? Another tie? More perfume? What if you could give a gift you know is the right size and color? This gift even keeps you out of crowded stores!

It's a donation in your loved one's name that helps homeless kids…which is actually a gift that gives twice. Once, to the person in whose name you make the donation – and then again, to the child whose life you can change with your donation.

Once you make a donation, A Child's Place will send a special holiday card to the honoree, acknowledging the gift in their name. You can also choose to have the cards sent to your address, and hand them out yourself.

Students being helped by A Child's Place are the artists behind the holiday cards.

If you're wondering how much to give – any amount helps.  A Child's Place breaks it down as follows:

$250 = one year of public school uniforms for (4) children
$100 = dental or medical appointments for (2) children
$75 = new book bags filled with school supplies for (2) children
$30 = after school snacks for 30 children for one day

Donations can be made online (here) or by mailing a check:

A Child's Place
PO Box 33302, Charlotte NC 28233-3302

Be sure to include the number of cards needed if you want to distribute them yourself or send us the name and address of the gift recipient – or recipients!  Online, you can enter that information in the "Notes" box on the "Donate Online" page.  Gift recipient name and address lists may also be e-mailed to

All donations are tax deductible and will be acknowledged with a tax receipt.

Place your order by December 17 to ensure holiday delivery.

A Child's Place Executive Director Annabelle Suddreth says, "Giving an alternative gift through A Child's Place will make your loved one's holiday special and help make a homeless child's life better.  Who could ask for more?"

Annabelle Suddreth will join the WBTV Saturday Morning Show on December 8 to further explain what A Child's Place does, and the Holiday Cards project. Watch between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. for the interview.
