A local businesswoman has been charged with writing worthless checks.
Betty Jean Austin, 72 of Boone, and proprietor of the Mountain House Restaurant, was charged Monday with two counts of writing felony worthless checks, according to a news release from the Boone Police Department.
Austin is alleged to have written two large worthless checks to a food distributor. Austin met with Boone Police at the Watauga County Magistrate's Office and was served with the charges before being released on a written promise bond with a January 22nd, 2013 court date.
