Driver ID'ed in fatal morning crash

A driver died after an early morning crash on Dec. 3 when his car veered off the roadway and hit some woods.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were the first ones on the scene at the 7800 block of Bellhaven Boulevard around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Jairo Blanco, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A green BMW had veered off the roadway, and collided with some woods.  The car was listing on a hill at a 45 degree angle.

That's when it caught fire.

Two officers tried to free the driver while the Charlotte Fire Department rolled up.

The passenger was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center by Medics.  Officers said they had non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, Marvin Sanchez, 36, was also killed in the crash.

Investigators spent hours working try to find out why the accident happened.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.
