Report: Lost hunter sparks lock down at middle school

A hunter with a rifle sparked a lock down at a middle school in Fort Mill on Thursday after he got lost and attempted to walk home.

According to a Fort Mill police report, officers were called to Banks Trail Middle School on Thursday morning around 9:43 a.m. to the report of a man with a gun nearby.

Officers say a construction worker called officers after seeing a man wearing camo and carrying a rifle walking towards the school.

The school was placed on lock down.

The man, 43-year-old Jerry Wilson Junior, was found kneeling down just inside the wood line on Banks road in between the back and front entrance of the school, the report states.

An officer approached Wilson and found the long rifle with the scope laying next to him.

According to the report, officers determined that Wilson was hunting in the wooded area away from the school and became lost.  That's when he attempted to walk home.

He was charged with trespassing on the construction site and state property, but it was determined that he had not made threats towards the school of any students or teachers.

The case is still under investigation and possible charges are pending.
