No charges to be filed in Thanksgiving Day ATV crash that killed child


The Rowan County District Attorney's Office said that no charges will be filed against the parents of a child who was killed in an ATV accident on Thanksgiving Day.

Funeral arrangements were announced Monday for 7-year-old Bryce Rueger. 

Rueger died on Thanksgiving Day when he was involved in an accident on an ATV at his home on Country Hill Drive in western Rowan.  Rueger's cousin, Cameron Barr, 11, was also injured and is recovering at an area hospital.

According to the obituary at Cavin Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, Bryce was born in Mooresville on March 7, 2005, the son of Andrew T. and Julie (Hauersperger) Rueger.

Bryce was an active child who loved playing baseball with his travel team Carolina Havoc. He attended school at Rocky River Elementary School in Mooresville.

A visitation for family and friends at Cavin Cook Funeral Home was held on Sunday.  A second visitation will be held at Voss Chapel, Seymour, IN, on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM and from 9:30 AM until the time of service.

Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, IN, on Wednesday, November 28 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Carolina Havoc Baseball Team, Attn: Bud Clonch, 151 Nevis Lane, Mooresville, NC 28115 and/or Immanuel Lutheran Church, 605 South Walnut Street, Seymour, Indiana 47274.

The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Witnesses told deputies that Rueger and Barr were riding an Arctic CAT 550 ATV for most of the day Thursday, and had recently finished eating lunch before going back out on the ATV in the afternoon.

Witnesses went on to tell police that the boys were riding the ATV at a high rate of speed when the vehicle rolled over during an attempted turn.
