Charlotte, NC (WBTV)

The Charlotte Catholic Cougars are in the state title game, after being knocked out of the regional finals last season by Crest.

This Saturday, the Cougars will play Northern Guilford. They are the class 3AA back to back defending state champs.

The Nighthawks will have their hands full with Catholic running back Elijah Hood who averages 12.9 yards per carry, and teams just haven't been able to stop him. Hood rushed for more than 3,000 yards this season.

Coach Jim Oddo says hood just has the heart to make things happen: "when he does run the ball and just gets a yard or two, he goes back in the huddle and he'll play with his chinstrap, and boy he's just going to bring that one harder it's just his temperament. He is going to bring it next time, and if that doesn't work he's going to bring it harder the next time. He has that kind of mentality and that's what makes him great"

WBTV's annual Football Friday Night State Championship Preview Show is Friday, November 30th at 11:35pm.
