CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The 2012 Thanksgiving "Click It or Ticket" Campaign is over.

Thousands of people received citations, but the total number is down from 2011.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the 2012 campaign resulted in 2,548 citations in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Cleveland, Union, Anson, Richmond, Moore, Scotland, and Hoke counties.

That's down from 2,825 during the 2011 campaign.

In 2012, there were more speeding, driver's license violations, and "other violations" than in 2011, but fewer DWI, seatbelt violations, and child restraint violations.
