Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigators were busy Monday with three operations that led to the arrest of three suspects on drug charges.
The first operation occurred around 5:30 p.m. Monday while investigators were conducting a surveillance operation on a suspicious vehicle parked behind the Cinema Theater on North Aspen Street in Lincolnton.
Officers had observed the vehicle for more than an hour when a second vehicle pulls in behind the theater and the driver gets into the first vehicle. Investigators witnessed a hand-to-hand transaction and approached the vehicles.
They arrested Anthony Dewayne Cunningham, 21, of Lincolnton, and charged him with felony Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance Schedule VI and Maintaining a Dwelling/Vehicle for a Controlled Substance. Investigators seized $1,800 in cash and two pounds of marijuana.
The street value of the marijuana was estimated at between $3,000 and $5,000. Cunningham was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $7,000 secured bond.
The second operation occurred around 7:00 p.m.at a residence on King Wilkinson Road.
Narcotics investigators following up numerous tips from the Drug Tip Line developed probable cause to get a search warrant and kicked in the door of the home at 3816 King Wilkinson Road to gain entry.
No one was injured during the incident and officers arrested David Rowe, III, 37, of that address and charged him with felony Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance Schedule VI, felony Maintaining a Dwelling/Vehicle for a Controlled Substance and misdemeanor Possession Drug Paraphernalia. Officers seized a felony amount of hydro marijuana. Rowe was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed under a $7,500 secured bond.
The third and final operation occurred around 10:00 p.m. last night after investigators received information that a large amount of crack cocaine was to be delivered to the parking lot at Handy Howard's Convenience Store in High Shoals. Investigators set up surveillance on two suspicious vehicles at that location and observed a hand to hand transaction.
They approached the vehicles and arrested Phillip Lawrence Byers, 42, of Gastonia, NC and charged him with felony Possession with the Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine. Officers seized 24 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of between $1,000 and $3,000. They also seized $1,500 in U S currency. Byers was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
