CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
A first of its kind on this November 27, 2012, today is"Giving Tuesday".
This national effort began with an idea at the 92 Street Y, a community center on New York's Upper East Side.
Organizers say they wanted to change the way people think about giving to charitable organizations.
Many Americans start writing checks to their favorite charities as the year draws to a close, a way to help a charity just in time to also benefit from a tax deductible donation.
The web site describes the concept this way, "On Tuesday November 27, 2012 charities, families, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season."
Since we first went on the air in 1949, WBTV has always been a station that believes we must live our motto ‘On Your Side' in everything we do. From the news broadcasts we deliver, to the community outreach programs we're a part, WBTV is happy to share with you some of the organizations we believe in, that you might consider reaching out to on this "Giving Tuesday".
Remember the effort does not mean you must give financial aid, many organizations would be grateful for your time as well.
Below are links to many of the organizations we are proud to partner with throughout the year.
