"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
With our focus on the holidays, and other big headlines in the news, there's another story we don't want to forget.
It's been a little over a month since Super Storm Sandy left a path of destruction from the Caribbean to Canada.
Here in the United States, New York and New Jersey suffered the deepest blows.
At least 85 people lost their lives.
And thousands lost their homes to floods, wind and fire.
The cleanup effort is well underway, but the task is monumental.
Rebuilding is far down the road.
A sense of "getting back to normal" – even further out of sight.
But, as we so often see in times of crisis, people do pull together.
The American Spirit is indeed strong.
People step up and do what needs to be done to help their neighbors.
Now that's where you can help.
Please consider making a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
It's really easy to do.
Text RED CROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
You can also go to Red Cross Dot ORG or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
Whatever you can give will make a difference.
In fact, it could be one of the most meaningful gifts you'll give this holiday season.
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" – tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
