Thanksgiving Day is over. Black Friday is taking front and center stage.
Some stores opened Thanksgiving Night. WBTV stopped by several stores as people lined up to prepare for the rush. We spotted around 1500 people in line at Target near Northlake Mall. Doors opened at the store at 9 p.m., the first time ever.
"It's a lot of fun. You meet new people," said Bonnie Kuhlmeyer. She reserved her space in line outside Target around 2 p.m.
Other stores opened at midnight Black Friday.
Whatever the time doors opened, post Thanksgiving sales are drawing thousands of shoppers to area stores and malls.
At Concord Mills where there are 200 stores, shoppers have 22 straight hours to find bargains. Mall management won't say how many people have made their way through the mall for Black Friday but they say the doors opened at midnight Friday, and by 1:30am, the 7,000 parking spaces were taken.
According to managers at Concord Mills, the crowds leveled off around 4:30a then picked up again at 10am. They say the parking lots have been near capacity since then.
Lizette Kraviec says she went to Concord Mills on Black Friday because of the sales. "I got my boots 30% off and I had a coupon for an additional 15%" she says.
For Kim Drake, shopping with thousands of people, is a tradition. She says "it's a normal thing for me and my sister-in-law to come out on Black Friday. We don't like Black Thursday".
Drake says she found lots of sales to help save money for Christmas shopping. She says she found "buy one, get second 50% off. I found a 2-for-$35 deal."
