The Capitol Christmas Tree came through Cabarrus County Thanksgiving afternoon as part of its cross country tour from Colorado to Washington, D.C.
"This is the Capitol Christmas Tree, not to be confused with the National Christmas tree," said Donna Carpenter with the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau. It's also known as "The Peoples' Tree."
The 70 foot Englemann Spruce came from the White River National Forest in Colorado. It's been touring the country with the National Forest Service since Nov. 6. It'll make its way to the U.S. Capitol throughout the next few days before arriving at its destination Nov. 26.
The zMAX Dragway hosted the 9000 pound tree from 2 to 5 pm on Thanksgiving. The tractor trailer carrying the precious cargo will leave Cabarrus County at 7:30 am Friday.
