Murder charged dropped in York Co. homicide case, ruled self defense

Investigators have dropped the murder charges against one of the men arrested in York County's first homicide of 2012.

Kevin Mitchell Eades, 21, was arrested just after midnight November 7.

The Solicitor's Office for the 16th Judicial District says the charge was dropped because the Sheriff's Office determined it was an act of self defense.

22-year-old Travis Koin died after a shooting in Clover in the early morning hours November 6.

Investigators say someone drove Koin to the ER at the hospital in Kings Mountain. Officials there contacted Kings Mountain Police, who contacted Clover Police just after 3:00 a.m.

Koin died from his injuries and investigators worked to put together the pieces of how he was shot.

The York County Sheriff's Office says there were no reports or calls to 911 about a shooting in the county. Clover Police worked with the Sheriff's Office to determine the location of the shooting.

After several hours of investigation, officers determined the shooting took place in the 1000 block of Wiggins Road, near the City of Clover.

Murder warrants were issued for Eades in connection for the shooting. He was arrested in Spartanburg County.

A few hours after Eades was arrested, the York County Sheriff's Office said a second suspect was also in custody. Joseph Matthew Polk, 21, of Clover, was charged with Accessory after the Fact.
