CMPD: Former CMS teacher killed wife then self after suspension

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police confirmed Tuesday the investigation into a deadly double shooting has led to the conclusion a former Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools teacher killed his wife, and then himself.

Police were called to the home along the 6400 block of Swift Arrow Lane in the Pawtuckett Forest Community in northwest Charlotte just before 4 p.m. on November 1.

A man called 911 and said his parents were dead in their bedrooms.

A search warrant stated Clyde Valentine was found with tape over his mouth. It also revealed both Clyde and his wife Ida were shot in the head.

Clyde was terminated from Philip O. Berry Academy just two days prior to the deadly double shooting. CMS told WBTV Valentine taught Career Technical Education since 2002.

But Valentine was arrested in June, accused of indecent liberties with a child. He was then arrested again in September for statutory rape.

Valentine was placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation. The alleged victim is not a CMS student, and the alleged incidents did not occur on school grounds.

At the end of October, he was terminated from his position and two days later police now say he shot his wife, then himself.
