Rock Hill police officer arrested, fired after getting DUI

A Rock Hill police officer has been fired from his postion after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence over the weekend.

Sammy Figueroa, 28, was charged with driving under the influence after officers say he bottomed out while driving erratically near the railroad tracks in Fort Mill.

The Rock Hill Police Department confirmed on Monday that Figueroa was an officer on the police force. He was suspended from his duties on Monday, pending an internal investigation.

By Tuesday - Figueroa had been terminated by Police Chief John Gregory.  A police spokesperson said he violated multiple state laws and personnel violations.

Officers spotted Figueroa around 1:22 a.m. on Nov. 18 driving down Main Street at a high rate of speed.

Officers say he bottomed out his car when he crossed the railroads tracks, then made a left onto S. White Street, crossing over the center line several times.

When Figueroa was pulled over by police, they could smell alcohol coming from his vehicle, according to the report.

He failed his field sobriety tests deputies conducted.

Figueroa was booked into the Fort Mill Jail.
