"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Tomorrow's Thanksgiving holiday expresses our nation's gratitude and appreciation of family, friends, and many other blessings.
It's a time to praise others for their extraordinary deeds.
And most importantly, it's a day to reflect on how fortunate we are, both individually and as a country.
For all the problems we may have, this IS a great country.
2012 has been a year of many challenges.
Gas prices are constantly fluctuating.
Our economy and the job market are still searching for solutions.
Nonetheless, we also realize what could have been.
There are many others who are much worse off.
Hurricane Sandy victims, for example.
So, in this season of Thanksgiving, why not go the extra mile and thank those who are often forgotten – like the local fire fighter, police officer, or ambulance driver.
We all benefit from their tireless efforts.
If you haven't ever been before, we also invite you to attend the Belk Carolinas' Carrousel Parade in uptown Charlotte tomorrow morning at 10:00.
Or later, while enjoying your favorite dessert, join the WBTV family for our broadcast of the Parade at 4 pm.
Whatever tomorrow holds for you, we hope it's spent with people you care about, sharing a good meal and making lasting memories.
On the behalf of WBTV's Editorial Board and our entire station, "Happy Thanksgiving."
