Shortly after 8 pm, on Friday, November 16, 2012, a passing motorist noticed some type of fire near Millbridge Elementary School, at 155 Ed Deal Rd., China Grove, NC.
The motorist called 911 to report the fire, and Atwell Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. Once on the scene, the Atwell Fire Chief notified 911 that there was a burned body at this location, near the edge of the woods.
The Rowan County Sheriff's Office was immediately notified, and Deputies were immediately dispatched to investigate. Detectives were also notified, and responded to assist in the investigation.Investigators were able to determine the name of the found body, and made notification to immediate family members. The deceased was identified as Erasmo Garcia Jimenez, a 39 year old Hispanic male, who resided in the Charlotte area, but his family was not certain of his current address.
The investigation into this incident continues, but Investigators believe this is an isolated event, and believe that there is no danger to any other citizens in the area. The body will be sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Atwell Fire Department, the Locke Fire Department, and the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
